Literary Translation: The Alchemy of the Second Voice
A work of literature is a universe made of words. To be the Second Voice is to distil the lyrical substance of that universe and rebuild it with new words, preserving the exact colors, density and atmosphere, registering each perfection and imperfection.
A true literary translator must temporarily merge consciousness with the author, inhabiting their psychological and cultural landscape to feel the reason behind every comma, syntax shift and metaphor.
